What did you do with your ned today? Hang out in the field? Groundwork? Riding? I thought it might be fun to have a little thread talking about what we get up to with our four-legged friends. 😃
Today, I took The Mooole for a walk (well,he walked. I was in a mobility scooter) in a howling gale and sideways rain. He thought I was an idiot but humoured me. 🤣 When we rounded a corner about quarter of a mile from the yard and got a face-on blast of icy wind and rain I decided maybe The Mooole had a point. And we retreated.

Not very exciting here! I have been laid low this week with some kind of throat/sinus bug and spending as much time as possible in bed, snuffling and snorting.
The boys were almost ignored yesterday - so today I have two lots of poo picking to catch up with. They were perfectly happy, though, as they got their regular supply of carrots and have a large round bale of haylage to chomp on.
I have the saddle fitters coming tomorrow for the annual saddle check - going to be a struggle with Smokey as he is a bit porky this winter due to lack of riding by his decrepit old mother Khan has been out even less.
But I am full of good intentions - just need the blasted weather to co operate now that we have a bit more by way of daylight!

Oh dear, get well soon! I hope the weather cooperates too. As one of my other horsey friends said "I'm so OVER winter!"

Today I left Mum in the car while I wizzed in to feed and put out loads of hay into the feeders. The plan being to then go on to art class. I had to wizz ever faster because Celeb was hopping lame (hope it's just an abcess!) so he had to be restricted to the yard with the other shut out. Hot in all feet but can't feel pulses... but leaving nothing to chance had to quickly soak some hay to leave out for him. Race about putting water the other side of the gate for Pee and Leon... you get the picture. Then back later on to check the state of play. Tomorrow will be clearing up after winter, seeing how Celeb is and not doing anything that's fun because here in Kent at least most people have decided that we should batten down and not go out, even for hacks, until the flu is gone. Having said that, some riders are hacking past my place, so what's the point? And the flu case in Kent is about 100 miles away as I understand it. Sigh...

Poor Celeb, fingers crossed it is an abcess and goes pop soon! Lots of people still riding out around here though I think there have been some cases of the flu fairly locally. I'm off to see my mule friend settled back into his yard closer to home today. It's very exciting as I can get there in 15 minutes on the mobility scooter so I'll be able to visit and do a lot more with him! 😃

That is exciting Nic! Well, I've decided that it's business as usual as regards leaving the yard. It's like bloody mass hysteria on the Kent FB pages, but in other counties people seem to be taking a more measured approach. It's winter, it's flu, deal with it as usual. Celeb is weight bearing today, so fingers crossed, but I'm a bit concerned about heat around the fetlocks on all legs...

It is! Was lovely seeing him arrive this afternoon - he was quite relaxed about it all but the gang (mule, hinny and 2 donkeys) came tearing over to greet him. "Brother!!!" It was lovely.
Hope Celeb is ok.
On the 'flu front I guess all any of us can do is be sensible. As someone who moves between yards, if I do get notification of a case somewhere I visit then I'll just stop going there until its clear - mainly because the Donkeys can't be vaccinated so are more at risk -apparently donks react very badly to the vaccine (makes them ill) though mules are ok to have it.

I've had a lovely couple of days in the sunshine up in the Midlands The baby Red Horse has been a brave ponio and tackled some obstacles with utter composure of a horse much older than his years. Today I sat on Freisian ladies' lovely gelding and he was a lovely boy. Nicxf, it sounds like your Mooooole is a great character and I'm always pleased to hear about what you're up to Kas, I hope the lovely Celeb is more comfortable today and Snigs- get well soon Xx

This is the beautiful boy, Dewin. He is a lovely chap, very biiiiiiig movement and a bit of a grumpy old man- but I care for them in the week when their owner is away working. I love riding him though as he is just so calming

Oooh, handsome! 😃 Today, I had fun receiving some training from a Donkey. Little Trevor has decided I'm his personal grooming monkey and has taken to parking himself next to my mobility scooter when I visit; knowing full well that I'll give him scratchies or a nice brush all over if he stands there and looks hopefully at me. It's only taken him a couple of sessions to get me fully trained...

Celeb's got an abscess in both of his fronts. They have opened and drained out, so it's just a matter of trying to keep them clean. Very unusual for any of mine to have this, even in really wet weather. But it's good to know what's going on.

My boys had a whole day (and an unexpected night) in the field yesterday! I'd volunteered to take my trailer to collect two alpacas for a friend.
It took all day. Much better loading recalcitrant alpacas than refusenik horses,I can tell you. For a start, you can just cuddle their woolly bums and heave
I am now an official Alpaca Auntie as I fell in love with them. One is dark brown and one is cream. They have very pedestrian names so in my mind, they are Cotopaxi and Chimborazo - Coto and Chim for short I will post a pic if anything I took turns ut ok.
So, as it was pitch dark when I arrived home, I thought it was too dangerous for me to lead the boys (who were,of course,at the furthest end of the field) across the boggy bits and tussocks, would have been to easy to break an ankle, so I just took Rafferty's muzzle off for the night and left them to it.

Aww, looking forward to alpaca pics! Bet the boys had fun. 😁
I had a lovely horsey weekend, a friend came to visit on Saturday so I introduced her to Mooole and the gang. She helped do some groundwork but mostly we just hung about chatting and cuddling the various equines that presented themselves for attention.
Then Sunday was spent visiting another friend and her very handsome 17hh shire x!
A great weekend. What did everyone else do? 😃
