Don't confuse soft and not having a feel Laura. If you lift your rein it will go straight - not always at the level you are riding, but it certainly will sometimes. That doesn't mean you're pulling or Taz is leaning or that anything is wrong at all. Sometimes your horse will need to feel the rope or rein more, and then it will go straight.
(Heck, what levels of refinement are we talking about here? Different planet or what??
thank you for your words kas
anyway
on to an explanation of the photos as you asked for on karons photo thread
modified today now I am more awake.... thought Id outline what my aims were for the clinic.
* I wanted to work on canter work on the ground to see how "with me" we could be as we had not done much since last year due to slippy field conditions.
* I needed to look at why I was getting sidepass offered whan asking for hq yield when ridden. (doh , it was simple, was forgetting to indirect rein rather than just see the eye flexion
)
* I wanted to look at getting "off the forehand" as a lot of the time we just mooch around hacking with low headcarriage and striding out (we do do some "work" too though)
* I just needed feedback as to how we were looking as I dont really have anyone around me to do that who "knows the standards" as it were
* to look at why Taz sometimes needing to "be busy" in the field ........ but then I had had a "revleation" that some of Taz offering so much was I was always asking her to go there and do this , and go there and do that. eg go to the pole then sidepass, go to the pole then back up etc ! I was not spending time doing basics like just go here, stand, relax, lets do some flexions
...... is now top of my agenda !!!!!)
re pics
as hinted at above by kas
... asking for flexion to the inside to do shoulder in ...... well I cant always remember the names of what it is I am doing when there a wall / fence line involved but we also got the movement where head flexed to inside and haunches to the outside of the track and we are on "three tracks" then move the haunches the other way ( is that counter flexion
)..... well its lateral work anyway
not sure re this one .. think I just came down the middle of the school , one rein and asking for straight halt with weight aid only
modified to lateral work to right
...... I put asking for a turn on forehand at first , forgot to look at front legs crossed
....... that is what you get writing it up in the wee small hours when not able to get to sleep and thinking that one of the issues we had been working on was geting the aids right
by asking for more flexion cos we had not done any of it recently and had been getting sidepass offered at times when I intended asking for turn on forehand well I know what I mean,
this one was asked for side pass
backing up ...... got a fantastic faaaaaaast back up on day two with one of those "weighs nothing" asks and grinned like a cheshire cat
. wish the video had been on that day
this one ...... the walk along, turn on haunches and step out in another direction exercise ... looking out for poll at highest point and softness at c1
.
ahhhhhhhhhh practicing the calm to "lets go" then slow with me stuff
. picked up the stick as I felt so tired I might have to wiggle it a little ....... but put it back down after a minute as didn't really use it as my focus seemd to kick in and actually that does not rely on gross physical action
down centre line asking for flexion and lifting shoulders about to ask for hind end to move over to do some lateral moves ..... changed half way down to face other way
relaxing with a scratch ..... her head got higher and higher
well ..... we worked hard
but I can still smell the roses ...... or is it the male of the species just over the wall ;D
