Dearest Mascagne, You were an amazing gift to our family. You told me once that you loved teaching children to ride; almost all your life you dedicated to that. Even the day before you died, you lovingly carried our son on your back for a little ride in the paddock, even though you hadn't done it for a while. And the other great love in your life - apart from food! - was Crystal. You and I shared a common love of her and you never spent even an hour away from her for the last 8 years. You looked after her and went back up the track to her when she was too afraid to follow the herd, calling out reassurance as you trotted all the way back. My heart is breaking for you, for your naughtiness as the only blind horse who could shimmy under an electric fence of three strands and let the others in to the hay field every spring, the horse who turned on the light in the barn to find the pile of hay more easily and made me think I was going bonkers because I KNEW I'd turned it off the night before. You taught the herd to stand by the water trough and call for showers in the hot sun - everyone learned that was the thing to do. And you persuaded everyone to let you share their hay or their feed bucket, with quiet persistence. I hope we were good enough for you. In this photo, you are smiling as you enjoy the cool sand, the warm sun and the gentle mountain breeze. Rest easy, sweetheart. God Bless You, sweetest girl.

What a wonderful tribute to a truly beautiful horse. It's so very sad that she's passed but your post made me smile too, she sounds like one in a million x

I'm sorry, I have only just seen your posts about saying goodbye to your gorgeous horses Mascagne and Crystal. They were both so so beautiful and were lucky to have a person like you to be there 'human'
