My friend Menna ( co signatory for the funbug fund) has had to make that hard choice . a few times recently her old chap Cloud who has arthritis has gone down and had difficulty in getting up. Our herd had stood guard for him She was away on sunday when I lookd across the fields and saw him lying flat and though the worst. By the time I got there his head was coming up again but poor chap was exhausted with flaring wild nostrils and had pooed in situ. Kate and I gave him a bit of shove as he tried again and he got to his feet. We stayed with him till he appeared ok but even when his breathing was back to normal he did not want us to leave the field, he kept getting in front of us as we walked to the fence we then saw another spot where he had been down for even longer and the ground was churned with two poos where he had been down for even longer ( must have been during night) We stayed till Menna got back and after deliberation and with great sadness she made that call. at 3.30 today Cloud went across Rainbow Bridge ..... fly free old man , even we who knew you only the last five years will miss you.

thanks everyone. spoke to Menna today in the field, she has been very busy last few days so its kinda not letting her think too much on it all atm. Her yearling HiPo that shared his field seems to be coping fine. she is just over the fence from ours and there are another two of mennas the other side ( though they are not her friends ) So glad she made the call as I keep remembering the one kas told us all about, the one that the firebrigade came repeatedly to hoist up
