This week I had to have my beautiful Sheik put to sleep. Up to the end he looked a million dollars and was busily officiating in the yard that he lived and acted as Patriarch and social secretary. Two days before we lost him he was acting as mentor to a new chap and making sure non of the other boys got too much for him. He was so beautiful, a girls dream of Black Beauty, his heart so big and he was so gentle all fell under his spell. At the beginning of the week a new livery visited with a child who had some learning difficulties, the other horses were a little put off but not Sheik. He was sent over to see the big black horse who delighted the child by gently licking his arm and accepting him into his 'fold', apparently completely making the childs day. I was so fortunate to have had he honour to have known and been with this special horse for 24 years and have some wonderful memories. He taught us so much and Rui and I will miss him deeply.
