Yesterday my faith in human kind was renewed when my elderly Mother received in an unexpected and amazing surprise.
Just before Christmas Sainsbury's local store had a Wishing Tree, my Mum's care home had joined in by writing out some wishes expressed by the residents and placing them on the tree. The idea was that shoppers took wishes off the tree and made them come true for those people. I was having tea with Mum in the residents lounge of her Care home and its been a difficult few weeks with Mum recovering from a fall breaking her arm, another infection and increasingly becoming more frail and less mobile. One of the home's staff called me out to reception where a man and lady were waiting, they had taken Mum's wish off the tree and wanted to treat her to her wish. My Mum who has dementia has been a bit obsessed with a rather lovely local hotel and their afternoon tea and she 'wished' to go there with her daughter.
This lovely couple said they didn't have parents any more and wanted to make the wish come true for this elderly lady and her daughter, their kindness and generosity overwhelmed me, Mum and the staff and we were all in tears! They have left a voucher for this treat with the home and now we have to try and physically make this happen for her, with help I think we can do it won't be easy as she is very frail mentally and physically but this might be our last chance to make this a reality for her. The brain is such an amazing complex thing even when going horribly wrong my Mother often lives in a 'parellel' universe going on all manner of virtual outings it will be lovely to actually be there with her even if only for a short while.
Thought I would share this act of kindness and generosity in a world where it is seemingly in short supply, the best of humankind pops up to prove you wrong!
