It's a 1/2" rawhide bosal, Snigs, which is alright for him even though it's lighter than you would typically start with because he's pretty sensitive. It's pretty much the middle bosal from this page.

Going for a birthday ride Not sure what was going on here, but it was apparently amusing. Cash has discovered cantering and when we do it, he remembers that he's three quarters thoroughbred and gets super excited and wants to keep going indefinitely. It's very adorable.

Lovely! Whose birthday BTW yours or his? By far the main reason Khan likes pleasure rides is the cantering. He shoots out of the trailer with his ears up,shouting,"when does it start???" BTW 2,how do I get onto your webpage thingy? I can read it but not get on to comment

It seems to me like it should be easy to post, but you have to log in with something- the idea is that you should be able to use a lot of things that most people have already ( openID or Facebook/Twitter ) rather than needing to set up another log-in for my site. Maybe I should just enable anonymous posting, though - I get little enough traffic I doubt I need to worry about spam.

I don't know what has happened with Cash lately but he seems to have taken a massive step back. I think is is a combination of my new job meaning he has been getting less work and the spring grass filling his little blonde head with fluff and nonsense, but I'm having to go back over catching, saddling, having his ears handled and just general twitchyness. He's still his usual friendly self, but he does seem to have lost a surprising amount of confidence.
Hopefully now the clocks have changed and we can get more done after work, things will get a little easier.

Now that's interesting, breakfast,if a little irritating, because I had something similar with Khan and his being in the trailer. The loading is perfect as usual (thanks to you) but once I started shutting up the ramp, the whole "here I am in my safe trailer standing quietly eating hay" went tragic again. We have had to spend loads of time going over all that stuff again. Perhaps it is just a horsenality (for want of a better word) thing? Or are they just like me.........slow learners and quick forgetters??

I think its the grass - it doesn't just fill their bellies, it kind of blows their minds a bit too!

The ponies moved house a little while ago and Cash seems to be quite happy with it: While I was poo picking Cash wanted to play the other evening so we ran about together, me taking a few strides with him and him charging off around the paddock then trotting back to me with a very pleased expression on his face... ... a lot like this- I love what a big stride he was taking here. His movement has really opened up recently.

Having had the all clear from the backologist I have been working to get his saddle on again this week, getting the time to wear the saddle down from two and a half hours to about ten minutes. Still not great, but better than it was and I cannot think of any steps I missed this time around in breaking things down.
Today, having got there, I thought I'd try getting on again. It was a bit damp in the school, which as it's not particularly well surfaced meant it was more or less mud of various depths. This meant that Cash got muddy feet and I got a muddy side when he vanished out from under me when I was leaning over his back.
After another hour and a half of preparation, or thereabouts, wherein we filled in a few other holes in his confidence, I finally got on and rode him a couple of circles with much praise and pony treats. Having gone through the getting on process, he was absolutely lovely to be sat on again after so long.

Today I spent a little less time working on our preparation and he seemed to be ready a little quicker but when I got on he threw a proper bronc fit and I hit the deck again. Luckily I landed on the other hip, so at least I'm spreading the damage. Also luckily I wore the same jeans as yesterday so I now only have one incredibly muddy pair of trousers. Unluckily I pulled the saddle around as I fell so Cash then spent a while galloping around the arena with a saddle under his chest. All in all I'm going to leave working with him until I see Steve on Friday I think... Good job he is such a pretty little pony, really.
