Notched up a couple more miles this week, bit more time of an evening now and as-it has been dry, we have been walking round the field at liberty, although he does get a bit too close for comfort at times, don’t like to push him away as he is willing to stay with me, so will have to figure that out at somepoint.
yesterday walked down to T junction in hand, then got on and my friend walked out with me, down to T junction again, better only a bit of resistance, typically a tractor turned up the road, so had to make him trot on (reluctant to move forward even though we were on way home, should have put boots on) I was expecting issues when I stopped and waited in a drive way, but he did not bat and eyelid as a huge tractor towing an implement went by. So, pleased with that.
PS re equine flu, low risk as they are kept on their own, I don’t go near other horses, no visits from Farrier lately, and if it is that contagious, it will be spread by other animal visitors to the Horses field anyway.

4more miles to date, foggy one morning so rode round yard, my timing is still out, as the ground dried out now able to start pole work again he struggled last year, but now first time he trips up, and second time adjust his stride perfectly, unfortunately my pole are disintegrating so will have to source some more from somewhere!

Good luck! I like the look of the plastic poles, or those soft ones you can fill (I think Barefoot make them) - I reckon they might last better than wood!

Denis the horse bodywork man always uses "square" poles rather than round. He says he sees too many horse injuries from when they stand on the pole and it rolls...

Had quite a breakthrough over the last month or so, the Bodywork I was doing with G was only helping a bit, so I enlisted the help of a lady called Sharon to come over and see him, she does Equine Positional Release, and it has been just what he needed, he is now much more relaxed both physically and mentally, All this means he’s a lot happier when being exercised, mostly ground work, fingers crossed when I start riding again this will be better too!

It has been an amazing few month we have been continuing with the EPR it has been fascinating to watch, how he slowly released each part of his body, over the months and perked up emotionally as well.
After the months, of continuing to lead out in hand and liberty ground work with poles, raised and in a fan, I decided to attempt to tackle the ridden issues, so on one of her EPR visits, Sharon kindly provided ground support, I tacked up and off we went .... and stopped ... and stropped.... and off we went again, it must of been 20 - 30 mins, I was knackered, G did not even break a sweat!
That was in May we are now riding out on our own, he still stops frequently, but I am able to getting going again, he is great with traffic, yesterday’s ride was the farthest, I have no short complete rides, so I make sure I am the one to decide to stop and go back, on the way home you would have thought there would be no issues, but he still kept trying to turn round, the poor bugger does not know if he is coming or going!
I have been really lucky to have the help and support, both actual and virtual from so many people, and only a few more weeks until Steve’s Top Barn clinic, 😁

Really looking forward to seeing you at the clinic!! And so pleased that the riding is coming on so well. Really strange to have a horse that naps going home as well as away...

Well, he decided to throw a prima Donna hissy fit yesterday, and refused to leave, the yard, had to get some help from the ground, I thought it may be sore feet, I bought new boots for the fronts as the ones that came with him were too small, tried them on the back but still too snug, he still feels wrong behind, and touchy at the poll, I gave him a body balance, can’t get him to lift up his rib cage, when I get the energy I will do more walking out in hand, as he still naps when I’m on the ground, Sharon is coming over one evening to get a treatment in before the clinic, I will see if she had time to come out with Tom .. see what he is like then.... quite a puzzle, frustrating at times but at least now I feel i’m Getting somewhere, part of me thinks the napping is a habit or it’s the only way he can communicate that he is uncomfortable?

It will be very interesting to see what Sharon thinks. If he's now moving more correctly he'll be using muscles he'd forgotten he had I suppose...

Oh my poor sore feet, led him out in hand, round the block, which can take 45min ridden if this includes trotting, so many hills! My phone app said 3 miles, but seemed longer! I Was not in a good mood, so he got some slaps for trying to escape into every field and driveway we went by, after about 2 miles he started to relax, then we reached the T junction, and he sussed that going right was the way home, so good session all in all, no pain no gain! I will try and remember that when struggling to walk to work in the morning!!
Something is is not right behind, Sharon coming on Wednesday eve 🤞🤞

Steve Clinic Report, Top Barn 20th-23rd Aug 19 Crikey, where do i start! amazing 4 days, the weather was kind no rain and only really got hot on the last day. G was really engaged the whole time and i was able to ride in a rope halter the whole time. Day 1 as day ones go this was not to bad, i was able to establish where the brace in his pole was, in hand and started to work on getting my rains short enough to enable me to be effective, a lot of work needed in not fiddling with my rains and having them not so long. All the horses worked so hard, we just concentrated on slowing everything down and we managed to fry their brains in an hour, all three of them were stood there processing. Day 2 Daunted by how much work i need to do to break years of bad habits, Steve has been teaching me the same thing for years, but it always disappears between clinics, how he does not go completely insane by repeating himself constantly is a mystery!! Steve rode G and had a great time, got him moving in the trot, it's all there i just need to catch up! unfortunately no one thought to film him Day 3 this will go down in clinic history as the day Steve made 3 women very happy (you had to be there) i was struggling with G's trot, so Steve explained about instead of thinking up and down in the trot, try rocking the hips in time with the horses rib cage, Sharon started of and was amazed by how better her horse went, i think her excitement could be heard across the county when i was my turn i did not think i would be able to do it, but i did! and as i got the hang of it G's trot improved he started striding our and he relaxed and lowered his head ..... amazing, then Zoe's turn, she was on her new horse and in a saddle pad with no stirrups and nailed it. Day 4 more work on hands and did as much as i could one handed, got video this time, and we worked on leg yielding, annoying how once side can be great and the other total mess! final got to feel how light G can be, then on the last session we all had a go with the Garrocha, could have been a lot worse, but managed not to drop it! The main thing about the clinic was how much everyone improved and was so supportive of each other, best one yet
