So i started our walking a 100 miles in my horses hooves, some time ago, (i'm never going to make it all in one month!) only managed 6 miles so far, as it is dark when i come home from work, not to mention bit icy under hoof the last couple of weekends.
It is uncanny that Steve has started promoting this excise just when i need it to recap 11 yr old Andalusian, came over 2016 must have lived a very structured life, which he was comfortable with, no equine social skills, Tom has spent the last 10 months educating him!! so he is somewhat confused, if i attempt to ride him out of the yard he has a major teddy chucking session rears up and has no steering. (have to wait for a friend to help encourage him from the ground when i ride, so not much of that done)
I did mostly ground and liberty work with him last summer as he is head shy and i was worried about painful teeth, these are now ok, still a bit head shy but getting better.
He has had 2 sessions with the Chiropractor i have being doing some basic ET with him, Will be doing more body work with him shortly.
When walking out you position yourself at their shoulder (please see video for more detailed explanation) G is confused at being led on a long rain and prefers to be behind me, this came to a head this morning when i was trying to drive him forward, as he pushed me out of the way and headed for home at a canter, slowed to a walk after about 200 yards, popped into a field, panicked as he was now lost, it was then i caught up with him, luckily there were no cars but to be truthful if he came across one i'm sure he would stop to let them by!
We resumed our walk with me in front, when he felt comfortable he joined me along side, we stopped for a pick of grass at the church, then walked quietly back home, then realised it was the yellow grit bin that he freaked out at, initially, had a sniff and seemed ok ... until next time!
Nearly home when i heard a a tractor coming so started to jog to a gateway, he was happy to match my speed ... well speed is a little exaggeration, it had an empty trailer behind so was noisy, he was completely unfazed by it.
Bit of an enigma is our G! 2 more miles done. really hoping this will help with the leaving the yard, ridden issue, time will tell.
